The Only Two Metrics That Truly Matter in Your Life

I’ve been on a Jim Rohn binge as of late. I’m so glad he left us with so many footprints of his thoughts. They always motivate me.

Something I’ve learned from his teachings is that there are only two metrics that truly matter in life:

  1. As much as you can.
  2. Just enough.

For example, how much should you eat? Just enough to feel satisfied. Yet, people try to eat as much as they can (birthdays and holidays are an exception in my book!).

How much should you sleep? Just enough to be rested. As blissful as it sounds, sleeping as much as you can will lead to all kinds of havoc.

How much money should you make? As much as you can. Aiming for just enough will have you living paycheck to paycheck.

How much time should you spend with your spouse and kids? As much as you can. Not just enough!

You get the idea, right? Can you see how detrimental taking the wrong approach can be?

I’ve been guilty of taking the wrong approach. Maybe you have too.

Evaluate everything you do and want in life. Ask yourself: Should you want as much as you can or just enough?

You’ll be amazed at how clear and serene things become.

PS – I finally published Legit Goal Setting, an audio course that helps you gain clarity and direction. It teaches you how to identify meaningful goals — no matter where you’re in life. Go ahead and take the course.
